At Philips High School, we are proud to be part of Oak Learning Partnership – a multi-academy trust with schools across Blackburn with Darwen and Bury. Being part of the trust provides us with access to a wide range of opportunities, one of which is our Oak Experiences programme.
At Philips, we want every student to leave school with memories that stay with them for life — experiences that inspire awe, joy and pride, and that help shape who they become. We believe these moments of excitement and discovery not only build character but also create a sense of belonging and positivity within our community.
Engaging education through experience
Our Oak Experiences give pupils the chance to enjoy those unforgettable “I’ll never forget when we…” moments. These include residential trips, visits to the theatre, and a variety of cultural and social experiences designed to broaden horizons and build confidence. Earlier this year for instance, we gave all year 7 pupils the opportunity to attend a fully-funded two day residential at Bushcraft York. We think it's important for pupils to build relationships outside of the school environment and this residential gave those who attended the opportunity to forge new friendships and build relationships with their new teachers.
