Where are we?

The Library is opposite the Learning Support Unit on the First Floor of the school building.

What do we have?

The Library has 4 desktop computers and 15 laptops available for homework and school related internet research.

There are comfortable seats and bean bags for pupils to read and relax on, and plenty of desks to sit and work at.

We have over 3000 books for pupils to read in the Library or borrow and take home. There is a wide selection of fiction, non-fiction, manga, and graphic novels. We also have a number of magazines and comics which pupils can read in the Library.

Suggestions for new books are welcomed. Please see Miss Masztalerz in the Library, or email librarian@philipshigh.co.uk with any suggestions.

  • Pupils can borrow up to 5 items for up to 3 weeks.
  • Popular books can be reserved by pupils.
  • Books can be renewed for another 3 weeks if they have not been reserved by another pupil.
  • There are no fines for overdue books. However, if pupils get an overdue notice they should return their books as soon as possible. Pupils will not be able to borrow any more books until overdue items are returned.
  • If a book is not returned, a replacement cost will be charged.

Pupil Librarians

Pupils can apply to be a Pupil Librarian. Pupil Librarians help to run the School Library by assisting other pupils with enquiries and locating books.

For more information about the role of a Pupil Librarian and how to apply, please contact Miss Masztalerz.

Every year we celebrate World Book Day and run events which encourage and promote reading for pleasure.

We also participate annually in the Bolton Book Award. Pupils read a selection of new fiction and take part in workshops about the books, before voting for their favourite. They attend the Award Ceremony at Bolton School where they meet the authors of the books.

We have regular visits from authors, and have welcomed Tony Walsh and Danny Weston to our school.
