It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new Headteacher of Philips High School.
The previous Headteacher, Mr Trees, did a good job and everyone associated with Philips High School should be proud of what has been achieved here in the past few years. It is a privilege to be entrusted with the job of leading Philips High School and building upon this work.
My philosophy in terms of what I believe makes the best schools is generally to keep things as straightforward as possible. My priorities are these: excellent examination outcomes, impeccable behaviour, outstanding teaching and learning and providing a wide range of high quality extra-curricular experiences for all students. With a clear focus and lots of hard work these things are all achievable.
This is a good school with many real strengths and I have no intention of changing things that are already working well. Indeed, as parents and carers, you are unlikely to see major changes immediately. However, I have no doubt that academic standards can be higher and I bring with me a good deal of experience when it comes to raising achievement and improving the quality of teaching.
Following various forms of consultation this term, my intention is to write again before the end of the school year with an outline of plans for the development of the school.
There are many challenges facing schools in the coming years. Nevertheless, my firm belief is that, if we stick to our core principles, focus on the things that matter most and work together then we can achieve great things. I hope that as many of you as possible will get involved in the life of the school so that we can make sure it serves the needs of our young people and our community.
I look forward to meeting you in the coming months and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
